I am, The Hunter!
« on: July 17, 2016, 02:03:30 pm »
Great weekend here in the hill country.  Several friends and our wives and kids loaded up and spent the weekend in Bandera, about 30 minutes from my house.  This is just upstream from where Bandera Creek flows into the Medina River. Crystal clear water and just full of fish.  I probably caught 40 bass on soft plastics early in the day, nothing too big but lots of fun.  Jake and I caught fish until we were tired of it.  Bout 6 pm I grabbed my bow and a few arrows and waded the creek for gar.  Shot 10 of 'em, all about this size. Most of these folks know I make bows and hunt with them, but most had no real idea about actually hunting with these things.  They know now.  I am The Hunter.  Great weekend!

Beautiful looking country and nice shooting. I love bowfishing, just got through eating Catfish and Gar cooked on the grill.

I know it's a regional thing but people dont eat gar around here.  I figure it's kinda like folks up north not eating Okra (or so I have heard).  Seems to me it would taste like fish.  I'll have to remedy that I suppose.  Love to bow fish for those bad boy though.  Lots of fun.

Great looking spot for bow fishing Slim, we don't have water anywhere near that clear here that I know of. Nothing like a camp gathering with friends on a nice summer weekend, great way to recharge for the weekday grind.

Yeah, I am blessed to to be living here and raising my boy in this part of Texas. I was raised about about a mile from here. The area is just beautiful and offers everything you could want outdoors wise. Well except for ice fishing I suppose. We don't get to do that much.

Not much ice. That makes the winters so nice, but we pay the price in July and August. But hey, not complaining. That water is about 55 degrees even this time of year, so we get to pretend it's really cold. Brrrr.

Yeah it is clear as a bell. The bottom is sold white limestone and the creek is spring fed. You can watch the catfish on the bottom in 10 feet of water. Huge cypress trees shade the banks. It's like a painting.

That water looks amazing. Great swimming hole Robert.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.

Thanks guys.  It's about 90 acres in size and belongs to a friend of mine.  His dads uncle (95 years old and still going strong) bought it in 1959 and paid $300 an acre for it.  Folks told him he was crazy paying that much for it.  Whitetail deer galore, big Axis heard of about 40 deer that almost never leave the place.  Lots of hogs.  It is idyllic.
