2 bows for Iowa
« on: July 08, 2016, 06:33:14 pm »
Finally got a couple of bows for the man who let me cut osage on his property 2 years ago.

Found him on Craigslist in the free firewood section. Had an osage tree down and I got a trailer full plus a nice honeysuckle stave.

Both in the upper 30's at 28.
Deer rawhide grip stitched with the same.
Braided belt leather with beaver tail on other.

Not perfect but fun anyways.

Hope ya like.

Too bad you couldn't find some with a little character. ;) Good to give back.

Thanks fellas,
Yep, same tree. I did end up with about 1/2 of the load as actual firewood but I aint complaining.

Tree had bent some and split at the base and the core of the tree was exposed; this stave is what was partially split free but too short(for me at least-49") to really make him a bow unless I sinew it, which I still may.

Nice job on your bows.Always fun to work on osage seems like even with all the character you got in those two bows.
Nice gesture also. He'll definitely remember you in the future.Around here I've given away some to the locals as gifts too.Kinda trying to be an ambassador of primitive bow making anyway too.
