Can i get 31 inches of draw from this hhb?
« on: May 20, 2016, 04:26:13 pm »
I know it's kinda vague of a question. I have a nearly finished hhb drawing 50 at 28. It has just started taking some set. It comes back to resting even after a bit. It's a stiff handled 66in. Hhb reflex deflex bow. I was just wondering what you all think about the wood. It's about an inch and five eighths wide tapering to just under half in tips. Pretty standard bow. Just kinds wanting someone who has experience with this wood to say either no, leave it as is or hell yeah hhb doesn't blow up. Kinda thing. What say you? Sorry no pics.

It can probably take it but it will just take more set.

Has it been heat treated?I imagine so since you got it into a R/D shape.I've been told though that heat treating does not make the wood more elastic. In all probability less so really.3 more inches may not seem like much till you try it on the tree.....lol.
Personally I would let it stay robust and an outstanding piece of wood and shooter if it were mine.I would reduce as much as possible if not already any weight on the outer third of the limbs without taking more set.
Marc St. louis I'm sure has been there with this kind of wood before.

Memory must be failing you. Ya don't need 31". My draw is only 25-26.

If it is starting to take set then the answer is no. It doesn't matter that it comes back after it sits awhile, what matters is how much when first unstrung.

I agree with Badger. Sounds like the wood has been maxed out now. Any more draw length added will just turn to perminate set. I would leave it be.

It has a four inch handle and two in fades.

Thanks for backing up what I was thinking. I called it good and started putting the handle leather on last night. Just have to get the strike plate and rest finished, and then some pics.

Double your draw and add the 8".

31 + 31 + 8= 70" ... for a pristine stave.

I say no. 66" is too short.
