When to add brush nocks?
« on: April 23, 2016, 09:34:33 am »
When would be the best time to add some grumleyesque brush nocks to a static recurve?  Would you wait until full brace to see how the string lays? Or do it early on in the process? It's not a stave, so I would be gluing on a fitted chunk.

i wait to bend my statics till it is bending around 20" so after brace
failure is an option, everyone fails, it's how you handle it that matters.

I would consider brush nocks as part of the finish work like shaping the handle and tips and adding tip overlays. I recurve limbs once I get to brace or so.

Me, too, like Pat said.  You are leaving the recurves (if any) and the tips pretty stiff, so if they aren't built into the stave, leave yourself some tip width, add the overlays, and work em in at the very last stages.

When I made mine I floor tilered, added statics, tillered out 20" (or so), added brush knocks and finished the tiller. You can add them whenever your comfortable to do so, no "set in stone" rules in that regard.

Yeah, I'll probably start thinking about 'em once I hit full brace.
Thanks for the advice!
