Not my year
« on: April 13, 2016, 11:48:40 pm »
Well, everything has gone wrong this year and just as its looking up, finished my arrows, my bows shooting great, and I got a good turkey spot for this weekend. Well, I drew to anchor today, released, and that's when my nock overlay flew off, string went with it and my arrow fell to my feet. Looked all over for cracks or splinters but I don't see any. I filed my other nock overlay off and epoxied some wenge on. I'll shape em up tomorrow night and seal em with some spray poly. Hopefully Friday she's shooting well enough for my weekend hunting! Hoping to all goodness that my nock overlay was the only damage! Should I short draw a few times and build up to full draw again? Or just full draw and let er rip
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short. Amen.

Better safe than sorry. I would at least half draw it several times without release if nothing else.
Look on the bright side at least it was just the nock overlay. What material was it? If it was a notoriously oily or waxy wood it needs cleaned with a solvent prior to glue up.
Also, no backup bow? It's always a good idea to have a plan B.

Good luck.
I have nothing but scorn for all weird ideas other than my own.

It was antler! I've never had antler come off. My glue prep musta left I too smooth or something. Maybe the fit wasn't right... No back up yet. I have a stave and a billet with another set of billets on the way. Need to get my back up and back ups back up built before fall.
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short. Amen.

I had an overlay do that... my shooting buddies ::) suggested I put a 6" nail through it to hold it on >:(
So I took their advice and made a nail out of silver and added it .

Del, the nail is absolutely hilarious (as well as quite stylish).

Nailed it!
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.
