« on: April 11, 2016, 11:55:48 am »
Just curious... I've seen some folks build crossbows in here, but has anyone built a bullet shooting crossbow?

No, there were crossbows designed for shooting bullets, stones, what have you, and good examples still exist in museums from medieval times. They were also popular in the mid 19th century in England which is why I am interested in learning more about them.

I've seen bows that shoot pebbles. I'd be afraid I'd shoot my bow hand.  :-\

Those pebble shootin bows scare the crap out of me. Never will I try that mess. Just the thought of a rock hitting my hand at those speeds... makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

I believe that they had a pouch or something like that, on the string, and the rock rested in that, and the pouch was held by the sear.  Something like that.  I remember seeing an article on those when I was a kid...... a long time ago.  I was into crossbows then, and that fascinated me.  Run out of arrows, change strings, and you are back in the game. ;)

I helped restore a stonebow crossbow, the type with a double string and pouch someone a genuine old one in the loft of an old house and had tried to clean it up with an angle grinder >:(
We got it back to working condition. There were also ones with a barrel that has a slot down the length of it for the string. I've only seen them in museums.

Google pellet bow. Still in use in Se Asia.
They flip-rotate the bow in hand to avoid hitting the handle.
