new hackberry (european) D bow
« on: March 28, 2016, 06:08:16 pm »
Hi all
It's been a while since I don't post some bows.
Here is one of my latest, a simple D bow coming from a sapling near 2" at base and near 1"1/4 at top end.
It's 65"ntn, 41# at 26" (or 44# at 27")
It has a 8 strands linen string, 2 coats of linseed oil, 5 of shellac and a final mix of oils with wax.

Unbraced profile:

and full draw

yes, what you can see in the background is a menhir :D !!!

Thanks for watching and cheers,
David

Thanks Okie :)

I forgot to say that it is 1" 3/8 at widest, with a slightly narrowed arrow pass (1"1/4).

Bye :D

Beautiful bow sir, mighty fine work. Hackberry has become a top wood choice for me. Again nice bow.

I really like that.
Is that the pith I can see down part of the centre of the belly?  Is the belly generally flat?  Did you leave the back as the round under-bark surface?
I've cut a couple of black wattle (Acacia decurrens) and bluegum (Eucalyptus globulus) saplings of a similar size to play with and am considering something similar for them once they're a bit drier.
