Old Barbour's 35/3 linen thread bowstring material?
« on: February 15, 2016, 04:03:23 am »
Would old Barbour's 35/3 linen thread be any good for bow strings?  Roughly what length would be on a 250 gram roll?  I may have happened on a stash...
I know it's not fastflight, or dacron etc, but I'm the bloke who likes Damascus barrels, hammers, black powder and paper patching in my guns, so I'm ok with archaic performance in my bows...
Thanks.

No idea about the length but old linen is still generally good linen. It ages very well unless it is kept where it might get mold on it.
I have linen that is probably 60 years old and it's still in perfect condition.

IT's the right stuff all right, but you have to be careful of how it might have been stored.  I bought a roll of something similar on Ebay once, and the quality of the product originally looked awesome, but it had beenstored somewhere musty and had lost a lot of it's strength.
