Well enough of the chatter! I have one I will make into a pyramid bow. That is the only design I have not tried with RO. This will be my 6th attempt at RO the rest have been very unsuccessful. This will be a target bow and I intend to hit 40lbs. If it breaks I will use John's trick of making it look like Osage!

Okay, I'll play along then...

I started this one a while ago from a home depot board. It's looong but only 1.5" wide. Riser is a chunk of curly oak.

Seal em up good guys!! I brought my pride and joy red oak board bow "Saturn" with the patterned burlap backing to Mojam 2015 to let my friend shoot. Lebhuntfish, sleek and a few of the other fellas know which one I'm talking about. It was about 100 degrees and pouring rain the whole weekend. I had a primitive grease and beeswax finish, and the thing soaked up so much moisture that it went from 45# to 25# by the second day. A real bummer! I'll be going with a modern finish this year for sure.

I probably won't heat treat this one Pat, haven't had good luck with heat and red oak in the past :/

The 80 pound one i made years ago was heat treated but only mildly.

Sleek, it recovered only slightly to about 30#. It didn't take any more set either so I'm scratching my head as to why the damage was so permanent.

I prefer mild heat treating Red Oak too. Keeps the set down and makes 'em feel snappier to me.

Oh man, one of my favorites I've made was a 62" bendy handle red oak bow with curves steamed into the tips. The only problem I ever had with that bow was when it burnt up in the house fire. Now you all got me wanting to make another ;). I won't make it to mojam, but I might play along anyway and build one if I can find the time.
