Little fun on the ice
« on: January 25, 2016, 07:37:34 am »
I took my wife out ice fishing Saturday. She has always loved ice fishing, she can take or leave soft water fishing. Mostly leave  :). I strapped some ice cleats on her Arctic Sports so she wouldn't fall, and we were off! If she broke a bone it wouldn't heal. We caught maybe 45 fish and kept 23. We fried them up a few hours after we got home. Sooooo good.

Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.

Nice mess of fish.  What is the one you are holding?  Glad you got to spend some time on the ice together.

Nothing like a bit of bonding time on the ice.
... alone in distant woods or fields, in unpretending sproutlands or pastures tracked by rabbits, even in a bleak and, to most, cheerless day .... .  I suppose that this value, in my case, is equivalent to what others get by churchgoing & prayer.  Hank Thoreau, 1857

Lots of names Clint. We call them crappies or specks up here. Its a white crappie to be official. The other in the photo is a black crappie. Tastes all the same in hot oil.

I do to Ed. We easily fed 3 of us with these fish. 46 filets is a lot! We could have kept a lot more, but back and neck can only take so much fish cleaning.

That aint no deer blind man! That's an ice shelter. I've been ice fishing consistently since I was about 10. I've had all the frozen toes, fingers, nose and fishing holes I need for a lifetime. Just cut the wind and driving snow out and you can fish anytime, mostly comfortable.
