Thanks Jeff.

Ajooter, this is in the BL.  I have made 2 BL bows and this was the first I worked on.  It is backed with rawhide.

Thanks.

It's been there since the beginning?  it aint gonna be a problem at all....I would call it a "wood feature"......you got my address , right?

I wouldn't worry about that check at all.  I like little 'oddities' in the wood, gives it some spunk.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.  I will finish this bow up and put it in my possible pile.  The check was there from the beginning.  This was a belly split so that is why the check was there.  I may be able to scrape it out as it is in the fade and it looks to be in a non bending part.  I know I am close to getting rid of it as part of it disappeared while tillering.  I just don't want to mess the tiller up or loose any weight. I will think on it a little bit.

I have a couple other possible pieces of BL.  Maybe I will see what I can get them to do.  All of these stave are from the same tree and they seem like exceptional wood.

I at least have pressure off now as I know I have one great shooter to send (actually 2 as my bendy handle BL is a close second)

That itty-bitty check don't hurt nothing. I always like a little character.

Bows are looking great. I wouldn't worry about the belly checks either. Compression side can probably handle it.

I've had another busy weekend with family visiting and want to thank all of you for keeping this going strong.

Ranasp, thank you for posting!!!

Here's number 3 with a late developing problem. Great looking osage stave that I ran into a wind check 2 layers deep. Not enough belly remaining to take 2 rings off so this one might be scrap. Already injected loctite 420 and clamped but it doesn't want to close up. I'm going to finish it to floor tiller and then wear a helmet before putting it to the string.
I found many years ago that it is much easier and more rewarding working with those that don't know anything than those that know it all.

Just for fun thought I'd post my take-down evolutionary ladder , top rung is(hopefully) the proper one and three below the practice pieces. Bottom is too small, wrong timber; next up timber too soft and th bolts deeply compressed the pine, next wrong timber, beds too short, grain oriented across riser instead of vertically led to failure, top is hopefully gonna be ok with 4 inch beds, proper grain direction and strong enough wood.  Right is my commercial riser as proof of concept

I'm working on a takedown too mud....gotta get my hardware and I'll post some pictures of the limb when it's mounted.  Gonna mount one limb and test it first before I go through with making the second.

I think your latest will work just fine.  I like that it still looks like a self bow too!

First off that bill snake skin is awesome!!  Haven't got my hands on any skins yet...they sure do dress a bow up!!
Here's where I'm at...2"shy of full draw at my target weight.  Bottom limb still looks stiff coming out of the fade so I'll work on that a little bit.  That lower limb has been quite challenging for sure.  Both limbs have taken a little set so I will probably do an even heat treatment over both limbs and then retiller.
