Thanx guys, really like this hackberry stuff. Got a couple more in the works. I would like to get a better one than this out to my victim, but if the bow gods arent on my side, i will gladly send this out.

Stix. The only thing I see wrong with it. That bow is for right handers DANGIT!!!! I would learn to shoot RH if it showed up at my door. Great job some lucky person is gonna love it

Ok I went with copper heads on the BL seemed like that's what every body was leaning toward. Me too. Got them glued on and now ready for a leather grip or beaver tail. Choices choices got to sleep on that one.

Almost done with my new shaving table been a week since I made any shavings.

Stix - nice looking hackberry!  And I agree with you - I really like working with the hackberry.  Of the whitewoods I have worked with, it is my favorite.

Yeah Mitch, i can see why some folks compare it to osage. It's shoots quik and hits hard. Can't wait to get more experience with it.

Some good looking bows coming around.  Me... I spent this weekend working on my drawknife, in preparation for my Plan B bow.  I received a brand new Two Cherries drawknife for Christmas this year, which was almost sharp enough for rough debarking.  But since I blew the red bud on the caul and need to start on a new stave, I decided it was time to actually flatten and sharpen the drawknife properly.

The grind on the drawknife was nowhere near flat, and the tangs were higher than the edge.  It took a lot of work with a big file to get it near flat.  I tried for a while with my X-coarse diamond stone, but realized I needed more.  A trip to the store for some 80 and 120 grit paper.  Now hours of hand grinding with sandpaper taped to my granite and I have a drawknife that looks like it is ready for sharpening.  It is ready for the waterstones now, should finish it tomorrow, then it is on to the plan B dogwood stave.

Got my plan A done.  It Osage 66" t2t just under 1 1/4" at its widest and pulls 41#@28". And 45# @30". It's got yew tip and arrow rest.  I built up the handle with cork and used elk hide for the wrap (at least I think it's elk hide). It's nice none the less.  I've been shooting it and it is fun to shoot. I'm going to give Hunterbob a lot of credit for this one as well as you guys on here. Thank you for the help!  This is my first selfbow. Now to finish plan B And C.

Tim bow looks good. Wish my first was that nice. Those Yew tip overlays are nice love the color of them. Also is that a Black Locus tree your bow is leaned up on. If so there is a bunch of good bows sanding there

Thanks guys!  It's a fun shooter. The tree is elm. I've been eyeballing it since I started this adventure but the wife and kids would kill me if I take their tree swing away.

That's a nice looking hackberry stix!  I really like it. I've got a hackberry stave but not sure southern hackberry will work. Need to give it a try.
