She looks good Pearlie. Locust reacts well to tempering but it sounds like you may not need it on this bow.

You know it, Pat. I am trying to limit the heat and I am trying to keep the belly grain gorgeous. It look so nice now I'd hate to blacken it.

Nice pearly! I've made 2 BL bows and didn't heat treat either.

I don't mind it using once in a while. It reminds me to slow down when I tiller. One little misstep and you take set in a hurry.

I said the heck with it and tempered it yesterday. I will see how it reacted. If I don't like it? I'll start another bow. Hope I didn't do something stupid, it was shooting so nice.

My first attempt is virtually complete except for more shooting and a finish. She is "Skinny Mini", she pulls right inside the lower range for my recipient. She is 60"t/t, about 3/4" at her widest, has one sapwood layer on the back and shoots well. Here are a few pics...

 ...and my second choice. This is a special stave. It was one that belonged to Tom Brennan(TomB), the last one I have I think. Many here on PA knew Tom. Tom passed away a few years ago from a brain tumor. His son Patrick give me most of Tom's staves after his Death and I in turn shared them with many of Tom's friends.
 This stave is 64"t/t but has a fork at one end. I think I can follow the main trunk though. It also has a few knots, pins and a heck of a reflex  and twist at one end. The rings are nice. I spent all day yesterday removing bark and sapwood and getting down to one good ring for the back.  Here she is...

Looking good pat! 8)!got the vinemaple reduced to somewhat of a floor tiller,tried shaping it with localized steam with not much luck.gonna let it sit for a week or so before trying again.i cleaned up my elm subury style bow glued on some tulipwood tips.i have a skinny osage stave from ryan via Jon w that i'm gonna try a bendy.Not in a rush to ship,want to build a few before I chose the one that shoots the best

She shoots nice too, bubby. I put about 25 arrows through her today. She's taken a little set but not bad.

Some nice looking sticks yall got going, didn't get time for much tillering this weekend but did get it off the form and a little floor tillering. Looking good so far but still a long way to go. ;)
