These trades threads are like HUGE build alongs! Grrrrreat!!
... alone in distant woods or fields, in unpretending sproutlands or pastures tracked by rabbits, even in a bleak and, to most, cheerless day .... .  I suppose that this value, in my case, is equivalent to what others get by churchgoing & prayer.  Hank Thoreau, 1857

Pearly, you can put me down for a classic PD static.  :)
I haven't zeroed in on any single stave yet. I have been going through a lot but havent had one really call out to me yet. There is this one pair of yew billets though...
"The bow is the old first lyre,
the mono chord, the initial rune of fine art
The humanities grew out from archery as a flower from a seed
No sooner did the soft, sweet note of the bow-string charm the ear of genius than music was born, and from music came poetry and painting and..." Maurice Thompso

The weather turned back cold so I stayed inside and did a lot of rasping on my trade bow.  I cleaned up the edges and then started on the limb taper.  This red osage is some dense wood.  The limbs are barely bending when trying to check the floor tiller.  It doesn't take much wood to get a good bow from this stuff.

It has thin rings so the belly should end up looking pretty cool.

I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

It's got some weight to it.  There is still a lot of extra meat in the handle so that is adding to it.

I got to get going on mine. But now it's small game season and it's got cold, in the thirties last nite. A real good time to shoot tree rats.

Hate to steal away from the thread but I just got some shocking news from a guy named James  and wanted to verify its authenticity.
