Why are you sinewing the backing first?

Because it has been my experience that the lateral shrinking of a sinew backed tri-lam will pull the two pieces of wood apart. I doubt it would be a problem with a more flexible and wider belly wood but Ipe doesn't move that way. By backing first the wood can curl the edges and then be re-flattened.
Those are some serious hooks. I don't know if I've ever seen a sinew backed tri-lam bow before.
