Hi, How big are your stone/flint arrow heads for hunting? And what rock/stone's do you use? Thanks for your time.

I usually make most of mine about 1" wide  x 2-2 1/2" long and around 150 grains when I can. The Cahokia side-notched style is a good hunting design. It's hard to make exactly matched sets, but you can put heavier points on lighter shafts and lighter points on heavier shafts. I like any material that's tough and will get really sharp. My favorites when I can get them are good rhyolite, Kentucky hornstone, Texas flint, and Fort Payne chert. Lots of other rock will work, though. Obsidian gets really sharp, but is weaker than chert or rhyolite. It's still plenty strong enough to cut its way completely through a deer, though.

i make mine legal width(7/8th"+) but ive found that a bird point (small) will do just as much damage. also like steve said i prfer chert over obsidian for durability.

Make mine 2 1/2 " ER 2 3/4 " X 1 1/8 " Mostly Cahokia side notch. Prefer obsidian fer the sharpness. Chert does give one better durability as been said..........bob

I agree with Hillbilly on size, keep them as narrow as the law will let ya,  and not too long , the more flint in front of the shaft the more chance to break ,, Raw un heated stone makes the strongest points but anything will do,, I read somewhere that they found fingernail size points in mass Buffalo kill sites,, puncture the vitals and let nature do the rest  ;)
