Saw it, don't try to split it.  If you're going to join other wood to it, you want it as straight of a cut as possible.

...but if you want it to just be Bamboo, you can put some glue in the crack and lash it tightly with string.  Almost like serving or a handle wrap.  :)  You could use something like Jute or Sisal impregnated with glue.

BIG roll of jute or sisal!  O:)

That's a great idea Eric! But I think I'm going to cut it open and then glue it back together.
MIke is right though, that's a big role of sisal or jute!

Well guy's, I think the crack finally stopped. I don't think a cordage wrap will fix this problem!

Damn. Perhaps the nodes should have been left to help hold ot together as it dried?

Patrick, soak it in warm water. When it softens, put it back together with a wrap until it dries. Then you should be able to glue the 2 separated pieces and wrap til the glue sets.

Yeah it kinda sucks. Pat that's definitely an idea. I think I'm going to cut it down the middle then surface the edges. And glue a piece of Walnut between each side. It should be pretty straight forward. Just got to get a good glue line.

Straight forward..... Dont underestimate how critical getting all 4 cut edges perfectly parallel is. If one is off it will throw them all off. Experience speaking here. A straight line is not enough.

Well it's been a little while since I updated this one. I've been a little busy, and forgot to take some pictures.

I have done a little work on the bamboo. I sharpened a couple scrapers so I decided to scrap the outer sheath and clean them up some. I also found a beautiful piece of Walnut to strip down for gluing in between the two pieces of bamboo. My boo has a bit of sideways bend to it so I cut my stripps of Walnut and kinked the the center of them to match the bamboo. I made a crude jig to help hold the stripps so they can be glued to one side of the bamboo. I don't have pics of the jig but I'll get some soon.

Guess I better take a few then. I got side tracked with all the bow work.
