Lethal Tomato Stake
« on: November 06, 2015, 08:22:52 pm »
This year I began making arrows from Bamboo tomato stakes. A much needed primitive upgrade from the gold tip traditonals I was shooting before. Needless to say I fell in love. Shooting an arrow you made from a bow you made is a feeling few people get to experience. This year I was lucky enough to feel an even greater feeling. Harvisting 2 doe with my new primitive arrows. This doe gave me a perfect 15 yard quartering away shot.

Just a little side story, After a short track and a decent drag that night. My father and I enjoyed a beverage on the back porch. I noticed a shooting star and pointed it out to him. He told me to make a wish. So aloud I said "I wish you get a nice 8 point tomorrow". He laughed and said "Way to go, you just jinxed me. Your not supposed to say your wish out loud." That next morning we hunted together and I was there to help him drag out that 8 point I wished upon him.

Thanks guys! Sleek, I will make a post on the arrows board with some pictures. Ive been meaning to do so but my time has been consumed with work and hunting lately. RPS3, aka my father-in-law, is the one who introduced me to the tomato stake arrow.

Congrats Joe, I am seriously happier than if I had gotten one myself. I may have introduced Joe to the bamboo arrow, but he took it to a whole new level, they are well made deadly projectiles. Now lets turn some obsidian into points!

Goo job dude.  I killed one with a tomato stake arrow a few years ago.  That nursery has since stopped selling the good ones.  Now all I can find are those ones dyed green.  Anyway, congratulations.

Thanks Bob but knapping heads might have to be a retirement hobby. Jimmy, Ive gotten all my bamboo at the Home Depot. So check that out if there is one near you.

Congats on taking 2 with your homemade gear Lefty. :)
I like those tomato stake arrows for hunting too, they are tough and get good penetration.
