Osage Plains Bow
« on: October 17, 2015, 01:43:03 am »
Hey guys, nothing really crazy here, but I thought I'd share it anyways.
I finished her up and took some photos at my wives grandparents property.
Its my first plains style bow, and I did my best to replicate a Comanche bow from the encyclopedias.
It had a natural deflex, so a quick set back handle bend with the heat gun and the profile was there.
I used the ol vinegar steel wool dye, and finished with shellac.
Horse hair tied on with sinew.
41" ntn, 37# @ 20" , I made a set of little cedar arrows and they fly like darts.
Cheers thanks for lookin

Well done bow! I' m always impressed by guys making such shorties, you've to have a lot of tillering- experience.
Those Native American shorties are such effective!

Cool little bow goat.

41", holy cow! That's something. Great bend. Puts things in perspective about what bows are to me.
I love it when a plan B comes together....

Lovely bend on that little stick.  Love the finish, too.

Thanks guys!
Arrows are POC, I didn't take any photos of them, I don't spend much time on arrows, they are always a rush job. Just needed some smaller arrows to shoot out of some smaller bows in the works.
