Tree ID help please?

I have the opportunity to cut as much of this as I want but not sure if this is black locust or not. I haven't seen it in person yet so all I have is pictures from my sister in law. Going out to look at it tomorrow. Thanks, Patrick

It has thorns like honey locust but the bark is different.  Not black locust.

Patrick, thats honey locust, not black locust. Honey locust has clustered thorns on the trunk, black locust has rose like thorns on the small branches or the trunk on saplings.

Thanks guy's! Would you think it's worth cutting much of it? I have never worked honey or black locust. Is honey locust worth the work?
I'll take some more pictures tomorrow. Maybe there is so black locust mixed in there somewhere. Patrick

I've heard folks say it makes a good bow but others that say it doesn't. I've never tried honey locust.

Agree. The bark is not your typical texture but yet has thorns??? That does not look like honey locust in Indiana. Are there others in the area or is this,the only one. The bark texture and color is not typical. I can see it being a young tree with slick light colored bark.

I think its a young fast growing honey locust that hasn't gotten its more mature looking bark yet...I think its a decieving pic as to the diameter of it

I vote honey locust, black locust is blooming here right now also black locust has a very deep thick bark.

Ok guy's, I'm pretty sure it's honey locust. Went out today and cut a couple pieces. I'll post some pictures later. But your right they are young trees the biggest one is about 4in across. Patrick
