Finally got my Shinto from Japan. Only played with it for a few minutes but wow! What a difference it makes to have nicer tools

Watch your knuckles, Bruce. Don't ask how I know.  :o
I lover my Shinto. It works great on whitewood where you want to keep the belly flat.

Yeah it's amazing how violently it takes of wood but leaves it rather smooth and flat

I've been working on a handle for my pocket knife. First thing I've used my shinto on, and wow- super fast.

Never used one, but they are popular.  You can get them at Japanwoodworker.com I have gotten some wood working knives, water stones, and such from them, and was very impressed with them.  I may get one, when I get to my Happy Place,  (Montana) which will be sometime next week. ;D ;D 8) 8) 8)

I have never used a Shinto, but I did get a microplane recently and have found it to be an extremely useful tool.

Wizard, I went directly to their website, they actually had the best prices there.  I bought the "file holder", a course file and a fine file for $25 shipped.   They forgot to send me the fine file, but I called them up and they have excellent customer service and sent it to me right away.  I find the fine tooth file works great for Osage, I'm sure it will work even better on white woods.

Great thanks, I've heard it works great on the swirly grain of vine maple. Thanks for the info
