carrot wood and bamboo
« on: April 30, 2015, 09:08:57 pm »
The back is carrot wood, an invasive species native to Australia, it is very tension strong, but dosen't handle compression well. The bow has a full length lam of purple and a power lam 22" of osage, bamboo belly, it pulls 52#@26''. I tillered this bow belly and back and it has survived over two hundred arrows shot thru it, by four different archers.

That is interesting about the carrot wood. I found it bad in compressin but have never tried it as a backing. Your bow looks a bit too stiff in the inner limbs and seems to be hinging.

I hadn't heard of it!
Yes it looks like a bit of a hinge mid limb.

You are looking at the bamboo nodes midlimb on the belly, measurements are 1/16'' postive.

yes, it has got a light stain on it. Carrot wood is real white otherwise.

Carrot wood is a common invasive exotic wood here in southwest Florida as well.  Interesting to see that it can be a reasonable bow wood, at least for backing/tension wood.

That's severely hinged...the unbraced photo proves it man...that ain't no bamboo node making it look that way..jus saying ....it needs retillered cus it ain't gonna last much longer like that more than likely, but by the time ya do correct that bad of a bend it'll be a kids bow....good try at a diff combo tho

+1 blackhawk. I'd go ahead and make a kids bow to give away, personally. Great way to make someone's day :)

Might as well make them short, save some wood to keep warm.

How many of you guys criticizing my bow have made a bamboo belly bow, it is not hinging and it is still shooting after about 500 arrows through it.

Not that I need to see it to know...there's enough evidence already... But yeah...please post a photo of it unbraced straight on,and a full draw photo straight on....and not like the ones you have from an angle

BTW ...constructive criticism is a good thing....learn to accept it. ;) The folks that have been around here awhile and have made lots of bows are not easily fooled, and are here to help you,and not bash you ;)

Isn't this your first bow or so?  ???
