Something about dogs...
« on: February 23, 2015, 09:10:51 pm »
....and hanging around campfires.  They just go good together.

Today I saw a post from Master Falconer and author Laura Culley about dogs and I wanted to share it.  If you repost this anywhere, please reference her as the author.

"It came to me that every time I lose a dog
They take a piece of my heart with them.

And every new dog who comes into my life
Gifts me with a piece of their heart.

If I live long enough, all the components
Of my heart will be dog."

He was a great retriever, all except being afraid of the sight of guns.  :o its OK. He made up for it by being my pal while he was around.

I just lost my best one before Christmas, talk about a hole in the heart...tough to sit at the dinner table as my boys still include him in their prayers, and I can't even open the gun cabinet yet. Got way choked up watching a few pheasants the other day.  Their lives just aren't long enough, but man do they give you everything they have in those short years!

That's a great quote, JW.  So true.

My friend has a Jack Russell that is 18.  Wish they could all live that long.

This was Katie. I cried like a baby for days when she died. Swallowed a corn cob that logged in her intestine. Vet said it may pass and surgery would be at least $1500. I would have sold a kidney if I could have to save her. She is buried with my other dogs at my favorite hunting grounds. I miss her even though its been a year now almost to the day. Her shed fur was all over all the time. After she passed I twisted her fur into cordage and wrapped in around my cowboy hat band, most special place I put anything. Including the golden earing of the man who should have been my step father but heaet problems took him too early, and the woven ring of clovre my wife made me before we married as we could afford rings.

Here is a photo of my next dog. Wiz is the little pup up front and center. Mom is a shihtzu dad is a poodle. Not a manly dog, but I'll do my best! 2 days old.

The woman I quoted is quite a person.  As a falconer, she is pretty top shelf stuff.  Unlike a dog, a bird of prey has almost no loyalty, not even for sale.  And yet, she has a redtail hawk that came to her as a juvenile 23 years ago.  She has flown that bird free thousands and thousands of times, and Maria is now blind in one eye and unable to safely fly.  Laura cares for her and maintains her despite how the bird cannot hunt any longer.

Laura's loyalty reminds me of a dog, and for folks like us, that is high praise.

This is my wifes dog Chopper. She had him when we got married 3yrs ago. He exercises mind control over us. Here he is staring me down and thru Chihauhua telepathy is saying " Geeeeve me a snackie senior Danny or else". Of course you have to obey or he might tear your throat out while your sleeping or something with those razor sharp teeth of his.   ;)
My wife gave me a little history lesson on Chichauhau's. She said that they were feared  in the old country and that they ran in packs. I about fell over with laughter, can you imagine walking along in the mountains of ole Mexico and all of a sudden your being persued by a pack of wild Chihauhau's nipping at your ankles.
