first bow

well finally got down to it and started on my first bow

i broke one already and cut one wrong but think i got it right now just

one thing though........... any advice on the tiller?

Nice Start. What is the wood/s and what bow specs are you shooting for, style, length, #, etc.?

its red oak longbow basically. trying for about 55# at 28 inches.   bow is 72 inches long. it seems to be bending nicely just trying to get it right before i put a shorter string on it

I think the left limb is bending at the fade good, but stiff from there out.  Shorten your string like koan said and you will be able to see better.  Justin

Dlamb, Welcome. Looks like you are well ahead of most of us when we first started. ;)
I'd say brace it with a short string to about a 4" brace. You will be able to see how the string tracks and get a more accurate view of the tiller.    Pat

After bracing, you might try measuring perpendicular to the string against the belly comparing distances on each limb at the same location. That may help confirm what you think you're seeing. Helps me... :)

thanks for the info and props i have a little bit more tiller work to do to it to make the limbs bend evenly but shot it a couple of times and it shoots nicely

my first bow so its not the prettiest thing in the world but i am hook on the craft from the start

You are already shooting it.man you didn't loose any time.How about some finish pictures

unbraced front picture, braced, and full draw

i ended up pulling 45 # at my draw length which is a little less than i want but i will do

one limb bends a tad bit more than the other but this was my first bow so i am very satisfied

Purty darn nice :). Kinda resembles and elb with a little flat bow thrown in ;D. Glad your enjoying it and I know your hooked. Looks great for your first and fifteenth!
