Traditional Archer is a fb group.  One of the guys posted pic of some feathers he dyed using kool-aid.  And gave credit to Dennis Han's posting on tradbow.com.

I wonder if it matters if it's artificial sweetener or not. Seriously. If you used the jello with sugar in it would you end up with sticky feathers? Or maybe the sugar is part of the reaction.

I use Wilton cake  frosting dye with a table spoon of  white vinegar and warm water. Color  choices are endless.

I use koolaid dye on feathers all the time.  The cheap packs for $0.20 are what I use.  No sugar.  Just mix it with water and soak over night.  Alternate the feathers so they don't stick together and prevent the dye from getting to them.  You have to keep them submeged to.

I can't remember Bill.  I think it was some kind of berry.  If you read the ingredients list on the back it tells you what color dye is in it.

I do  coolaid dyes  also
 easy to do and easy to  cleanup no harsh chemicals  to deal with

 Pats right where he was last time I was on here. Spot on. I did a few dozzen in years past and rits dye and alcohol. I 've also used cool aid. Rits is a lot brighter and last longer that coolaid. If you do use cool aid use really warm water. Not hot. And get in rewarm a lillte while. Reheat.

I've never had to keep the water warm.  Just fill it up and let it sit over night.  I haven't noticed any of mine fading either.
