My plan B is shooting and ready for a grip.  Oh boy I hope the plan A works out cause I love that bow!  Didn't get to go out yesterday but scraped it a bit on the porch and going out today.  Got a short string made and put a few tugs on it with the long.  Initial tiller looks good, maybe a bit weak in the tips.  Its naturally recurved a tad so that's new for me.  It's an elm sap, I hope it'll be ok unbacked but its down to barely below the cambium, smooth and burnished, so lets see!

Man that sounds good E. Jensen! I've never had an elm stave. Going to cut one after mojam. I found 2 really nice ones at my folks house. The are about 3 to 4 inches around. Looking forward to working with it.

I just put my trade bow in the truck, getting everything loaded to head to mojam! Right now it is 50lbs at 20 inches. Hopefully in a couple of days  it will be 55 at 28 and shoot in! I'll probably shoot the 3D course there with it to. Can't wait, see you all in a week! Patrick

So i am getting there. I need to heat this one up, the string is still just off the edge of hte handle. I have it pulling to about 30lbs right now but that is a low brace and I have a long why to go so we shall see.

Got mine shipped... Osage 50#@27". I'll tell you now that it thumps in the hand, so I tried like crazy to reduce the outer limbs and get it to have a sweeter release. Buff horn nock overlays, both of which have randomly broken and had to be replaced during tillering and shooting-in. All that said, I'd confidently hunt most anything with this bow, if I had it out there. I've hunted brown bear with a bow that didn't perform as well as this one, so there you go. No shelf/arrow rest, 66"ntn in a 2" black pvc tube, headed far away.

Got my plan A tillered.  Pretty close anyways.  I'm a shadow tillerer and it was hazy and then got even hazier so I'll revisit it.  Started chasing rings on plan C, which is a snakey, knotty osage.

Got my plan A shooting today.  I have mixed feelings about it.  On the one hand it shoots GREAT!  Better than any bow I've made since.  I'd estimate 55-60#.  Draws smooth, shoots straight and fast, and absolutely no handshock.  But . . . . there is a little twist on one tip when strung.  It's either because of the side nock, or the natural lateral bend.  Not sure if I should cut the 1/4" nock off, put it on the other side.  Or heat the tip straight.  Or chalk it up to character since it shoots fine.  Input please.

KellyG, that blw has some nice character.  I made a few like rhay and the string alingment on handle usually males a nice center shot. That brace looks low, have you got ot to full brace yet?

I just gotta touch one part of the top limb to make it flex a little bit more. It's a little under weight but still is a quick shooter when pulled to its full draw. It lost a little more weight than I had hoped by the time I got all the twist and turns sorted out. I havnt weighed it since its second heat treatment but is probably about 40 pounds.Though with my normal draw in the 26 1/2" area its full draw of 30" is a little bit of a stretch to get out of it. When shot at my draw length it seems a little slow with a minor thump in the hand but bringing it to full 30" seems to wake it up and it performs much better. When I can stretch out to get the full 30. I just gotta touch it up, do all my doodling, and put the finish on the belly and a few more coats all over. THen on its way it'll be.

E.Jensen - if it shoots well and the string isn't off the side of the handle then I'd just leave it as is.  :)

My eye is officially better. Eye drop for one more week and then back to normal. I got working on my bow a bit. Apparently the handle fits good, maybe too good. It was a mother trying to get it apart after it sat together so long.
