Any stave in BC Canada

Where can I find yew staves in Vancouver area?
Wanna make my own bow.

Yes, go cut your own. I drove all the way from Saskatoon last summer to do that very thing. There's not a lot, but with a bit of research, you'll find it. I did. You can also get decent board yew from speciality lumber yards. Call ahead.

Last year when I went to the island.. Saw ocean spray and vine maple... Practice on that first then make a killer yew bow

Birch is common in the north and a great bow wood...

is there a difference in birch from the coast and birch from the interior? I know a bowier round here who hates birch. he keeps having em fail.

I havent made any birch bows, theres too many better options!
I hear its not great in tension, and needs a backing.
better for arrows.
if I made one id be looking for a nice branch

Yew is good wood but there are other wood species that grow north of the border that are just as good.  I'm just surprised that nobody has tried planting Osage or Black Locust on the west coast of Canada.  I know Black Locust will actually grow here in central Ontario and Vancouver has much milder weather.

Cut some Black Locust a few weeks ago.  Vancouver Island, West coast.

There is a convenience store in Toronto that sells Osage "horse apples" as decorations. Might have to pick some up and see if I can grow some.
 Osage has no trouble growing in southern Ontario.
