Spears for an upcoming hog hunt...
« on: November 10, 2014, 10:55:14 pm »
I made these spears from mulberry branches cured and straightened with heat. I'm pretty impressed with how strong this wood is after its good and dry. Stone is Georgetown and of course they are set with pine pitch and backstrap sinew. I did seal these with tru oil because I'll be using them in some really swampy wet stuff. Wish me luck I'll be goin all cavemen on these hogs come Thursday !

I don't know how much you know about hogs, but you better take more than spears, maybe a 12 ga with bucks or slugs. Those point are far too nice to muck up on a nasty hog. Good luck.

Should work great, Elijah, if they don't booger up a lot of meat.

Dang! :o Wow!  :o  Elijah, that is just absolutely phenomenal! Holly Molly, Batman, those are just absolutely beautiful!  That aside, you make me sick!
I can barely make a functional arrow head, and you just whack out a couple of absolutely gorgeous spear heads, and then plan on using them on some ol nasty hog!  Oh poopie, the head snapped off in the fighting shield on that ol boar.  Ah, where is that rock, I brought, and my knapping tools, I'll just knock out another one, here in a few minutes....... Sheesh, yep you make me sick, but that aside, good luck, and be ready, to be like Eddie, and use those Ninja reflexes, because as you well know those hogs, are tough, fast, and plain nasty mean, and just simply don't know when to give up the ghost.  They can take an unbelievable amount of damage, and keep on keeping on.  Good luck, and don't post anymore of your stuff.  You can go sit with Roger, and make stuff like this but just don't show it.  I have enough of a time trying to get an "Arrow head" made, let alone a spear head, out of hard arse flint.  All I have been working with is Obsidian.   After making the customary blood sacrifices, and doing the secret language, and demon dance, and flinging the broken pieces, with my blood on them, out into the nether regions of my yard, I still can't knapp worth a crap! :(  But again, good luck, and do be Keerful!! ;)

Stickbender youre funny man ! hahah yeah I will channel my inner Eddie and be ready to bob and weave. Also these spears are about 6' long hope there not too long and get stuck on branches in the thick stuff but if I tangle with a big boar hog I'm gonna want some freakin standoff !

Just in case things sort of go awry, you might want to think about taking two good Friends with you.  Mr. Smith, and Mr. Wesson, in the .44 mag configuration. ;)
Good luck, and we are all awaiting the tall tales, and doctored, and photo shopped pictures of your forth coming adventure, Mr. Hill. ;) ::)  When do you go on this search and destroy mission?
