The best place to start is to buy or borrow the book "The Tradtional Bowyer's Bible  volume 1". It is by far the best and most comprehensive beginners guide. Youtube and forums such as Primitive Archer are very nice, but tend to be unorganized and overwhelming for a beginner.
I'm dead serious. Go buy that book!

Get off your desk chair and get the bowyer's bible! :P

Along with a copy of the Bowyers Bible, getting together with someone that has experience is a great help.

Where are you located?  General vicinity is good enough, someone might be in your area and be willing to have you over to their shop/garage/shed and help you make shavings!
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.
