Bow Lamination Thicknesser
« on: October 25, 2014, 10:49:06 am »
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, but I thought it may be of interest.
I converted an old cheapo power plane into a thicknesser. It will handle upto 2" wide billets or laminations.
Description and more pics on my blog.

Will keep eye out for power plane at tomorrow's flea market.  Thanks for the post!

That's grand. Have had one of them laying around for a couple years that I got used from my cousin but never mastered freehand. Thanks for posting this Del.

Great idea!!

Couldn't u add springs under the board to give it tension and hold it tight? Maybe just hold the board with some string? To allow the spring movement?

Nothing ventured nothing gained

Yeah, I've been considering things like spring loaded rollers, rubber straps etc... always a trade off between simplicity and reliability etc.
I'm slowly improving it before I let it loose on some Yew.

Looks pretty cool Del. Is that bolt an adjuster so you can do tapered lam's?

To do tapered lams with this you need to make a blank with the correct taper and then lay your parallel lam on top of it on top of a sled. Everytime you run it throught it will take off the high spot ,when you have no high spot you have a tapered lam.

Nope the bolt is just a depth adjuster.
If you follow the link in the original post the last paragraph describes how to make a tapered sled as explained by Mike.
