Bulk Sinew?
« on: July 16, 2014, 06:06:05 pm »
Hey guys, i was at bulk barn the other day and saw that they sell Bull Tendons, i guess for dogs or something. Anyway i was wondering if Bull tendons would work like sinew for backing a bow? anyone have experience using this stuff? thanks :)

The last sinew backed bow I did was with cow sinew. It was already shredded when I got it but I like the way it works and the resulting bow. Getting it from raw tendon to shredded, clean sinew might be the difficult part but I don't know.

Generally if it's marked bull tendon you get a bit more bull then you bargained for

Definitely do not chew it to soften  until you know for sure what it is. ;) I'm guessing it's a great big long piece that would only take a couple to do a bow ( or one to do a cow). If it looks too good to be true , it probably is.

Aye...be careful when the bow is done...if you go into a field of cows in the spring the reflex may increase significantly.....

If it is the backing I would think the opposite would happen and the bow would lose draw weight severely. Needless to say, you would find it hard to perform under those conditions. Also, yuck.

So a bull sinew belly lam should really add some performance

Is someone going to finally fill this poor fella in? Or do we just keep hinting around, and see what pops up?

I feel like a lot of cow sinew threads degrade into jokes about bully sticks.  Albeit extremely clever jokes that only bowyers would get. :)  i still enjoy them though.
