Vine Maple Bow for a Friend 58" ntn 42#@28"

Here's my latest bow. It's a gift to an old friend back in Wisconsin. He has shoulder problems so I kept the draw weight low. It was a nice clean piece of vine maple with a very flat back. It came from a big tree (as vine maple goes). It bends through the handle. I built up the handle with layers of cork to make it more comfortable to shoot. The stain is leather dye, the finish is tru-oil. The string is fast flight. The tip over lays are sheep horn. the had some reddish streaks going though them that added character. My shoddy camera work didn't highlight them very well. It is a fun, quick little bow. I keep making these vine maple bows and giving them away, I need to make one for myself one of these days.

Nice!  I am really partial to that sort of stain job.  Definitely make yourself one ASAP!

Beautiful Weylin...Love the color transition on the limbs with dark outers...great work on that leather grip and the tiller is very nice...

Dude, that thing is awesome. Gotta love VM, I think its one of the toughest woods out there.  The dye job is sweet too.

 "He has shoulder problems so I kept the draw weight low."   I totally understand but what seems to be the big deal with higher weight bows anyway like 52# plus.   Here our legal hunting weight is 40# so I try to keep all bows around 44-46 at my draw length of 27"   I see no need to go further,  I have yet to hunt with a bow but when I do it will be close say 10-20 yards.  Having said that; does an extra 6-10# make any difference....?
