NC Sugar Quartz Point
« on: May 28, 2014, 11:13:51 pm »
Made a trade for some NC Sugar Quartz. It works pretty well but is layered and has soft areas. Managed to get a point but I do not think it would be good for deer hunting. Maybe small game.

I picked up a bunch of that stuff around a lake while out there "or what I thought was that". After pecking on it on the tailgate for awhile I threw it all back on the ground, ha. I'm glad you were able to get such a nice point out of it :).

It is difficult (for me) to knock out a preform, but big flakes that can be pressure flaked seem to be the only chance I have with this stuff. However I did have a good shot at a preform last night until I broke it... :o

Thanks for the compliments on the point.

Nice point nc.
That material (we call milky quartz) along with quartzite is the mainstay of the eastern Blue Ridge and coastal areas from Maine to Georgia. Of course there is Rhyolite and imports too. Gold is found in  and with the quartz.
It's ok for smaller points but honkers are few and far between.
