handle popping?

I'm making a red oak board bow for a friend of mine and the only red oak bows I have built I backed with hickory or boo. I plan on baking this one with rawhide. My question is do you guys have problems with glued on handles popping on 3/4" RO or however thick those trim pieces are at home depot? A hickory or Boo backing adds an 1/8" so handle popping wasn't a problem there.

GENERALLY speaking, if your bow is working into the fades at all, it will shear off the glued up handle.

U need to leave an island for the handle block. Ur fades should start before the edge of the block. Or it pops. If u glue on thin lams to build it up u may be fine

If you take a 1/4 lam glue it on, extend it further than your actual handle will sit, and you should be fine. Otherwise...glue lam on, then glue handle to the lam.

Lee, look up my recent hickory backed lemonwood bow.  I started with 3/4" thick lemonwood. I have pics in the thread with the handle riser attached and you will see how the riser sits above the plane of the limb belly keeping the handle are stiff so the riser won't pop off. Photobucket won't allow me to access my pics or I'd post the pic here.

Another option is to build the handle up with cork or leather, I've used both and prefer cork it's real easy makes a comfy grip and won't pop off

just found out recently that the thick rubber truckbed liner...wrks good for building a handle....dont ask
