Tillering osage takedown, need 2nd opinion

I'm tillering this osage takedown, but having a problem removing enough wood. Normally I've used a 1" metal tube for a handle but this time decided to go with a 11/4" tube. After compressing the tube is approximately 1 1/8" wide  by 1 1/2" deep, currently pulling #55 at 20". The limbs are 1 5/8" at the fades--pretty wide for osage I know. I would like for the final weight to be #55-57 at 27", I'm wondering if a little more should be removed from the sides at this stage, or just take it off the belly. Advice is welcome, thanks.

Did you leave the sapwood on the back?  The limbs looks pretty thick.  Nice bend so far though.

Fade is a little tight on the right. And the right is 5-8# stronger than the left, IMO.

Id also suggest leaving that width for a 55-60# bow. Just my .02 cents.

I'm guessing you're using a long string, but the right limb looks stiffer to me. Try and get it to low brace asap. If you want to keep the width, no problem, it'll just end up thinner. Watch for twist if you do.

What is the back profile? And what's up with the tape on the limbs? Is that where you have knots?

If I was you, I'd get that T/D grip fitted and glued before I did anymore tillering.

Got a picture of it assembled and unstrung? Proper tiller shape throughout the draw should be relative to the unstrung profile.

Thanks for the input guys.
I had been relying on the tape to keep the collar tight, but you're right I need to get a limb glued in.
ajooter, the sapwood is off, what you see is a linen strip.
Going to work on the right limb now.
