For gluing bone to wood, whether it is baccula bone or rib, use a piece of fresh cut garlic to prepare the surface for gluing.   This is an old wood-working trick for gluing bone or oily woods.

You just wipe it down with fresh garlic and let it dry first and then glue it up is all?

DuBois, once your ready to glue-up cut a a clove of garlic in half and wipe it across the gluing surfaces, then give it 20 mins or more to do its thing.  Apparently the fresh garlic juice reacting with air etches the gluing surfaces and cuts any oil.  I picked this trick up from a great book titled Hide Glue, historical and practical applications by Stephen Shepard.

I have cooked the bones (cow) for a soup. Then cooked a second time to get all the fat out. No problems til now, pretty much the same procedure as horn or antler.

Yes, and then I have them in the dish washer for 3 or 4 rounds.
