Very sweet stick of osage.  Wondering what the front profile looks like.  Nice bend!

I appreciate the comments that have been posted.

Carson,

It is basically 1 1/4 inches parallel the entire length until it narrows at the tips. One limb has several knots that needed to work with and those places are obviously a little wider.

I am not a great photographer but I hope these show the front profile.

I guess you mean the logs, floors, countertops and door :). I don't notice anymore. I built this house, all 3 floors, from the ground up with very little help. Just about everything was either made by me or bought for cheap on craigslist.

Nice job!  Looks good!
Talking trees. What do trees have to talk about, hmm... except the consistency of squirrel droppings?

To go around all those knots took patience and skill with osage. Nothing about that bow is simple, it appears to be a well made fine tillered tool. Bows just like that one were used for thousands of years to feed ,clothe, and protect indigenous people very successfully.
Nice bow.

Thanks Eric. I admire the works of art that are posted on this forum by you and others. I posted this bow as an example that it doesn't have to take a long time to make functional bow. I have, and still do, spend a lot of time with staves that fight me every step of the way. Twisted, crooked, knots etc. Thankfully, this just wasn't one of them.

This was one of those staves that seemed like it really wanted to be a bow. The ring was chased on the back in about 15 minutes with another 15 minutes of using a scraper to clean it up around the knots. The knots were kind of uniformly raised, so it was easy to quickly work around them with a drawknife.  I went right from floor tiller to brace height and spent about 1 hour on final tiller.

Patrick, thanks for adding those pics.  Beautiful osage bow.  And that makes my mind up, I am not buying a house, I am building it myself...beautiful home.

I happen to think these bows are the best way to show off your skills.  There are no tricks to hide bad tiller or bad design on something this simple.  You either nail it or fail it!

You nailed it.
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.
