BBY Recurve
« on: February 09, 2014, 08:43:03 pm »
I finished this one a couple days ago for someone on the west coast.  It's 64" long with 1 3/8" wide shallow D section limbs with 3/8" wide nocks.  I glued in some 4" of reflex and she's kept just over 1".  She pulls just over 60# @ 28".  The ring count on the Yew is fairly low but the density is fairly high.  It was clean wood except for a small knot near one recurve.  I shot it some using a 700 grain arrow and it's fast.  Here's a couple pics

Your bows are always very inspiring!  That one is no exception!  Awesome!
Talking trees. What do trees have to talk about, hmm... except the consistency of squirrel droppings?

Might as well make them short, save some wood to keep warm.

Yep the tiller is spot on - you make them look beautiful at full draw.

Thanks guys

This design is a power house of energy.  If it would have been strictly a hunting bow I would have made it a bit shorter but the fellow wants to do some target shooting as well

Nice job, Marc. Boo and yew are a lovely combo... light and lively.
Straight wood may make a better bow, but crooked wood makes a better bowyer

Nice one Marc.

adb Bamboo bends readily with a heat gun. Not sure if that's what Marc does of course.

That's a mean machine Marc.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.
