Just wondering what is more efficient for a short wood recurve. static recurves or working recurves

Statics put more strain on the bow so if your tillering is good you will get better performance from a static recurve.

Joec the sign of a good wood bow is for it to bend and recover...just like a working recurve.

Just because it is bent to begin with doesn't mean it won't return to that position when the tension is let off.

I prefer to let my recurves work, but I've done a few statics and I honestly can't say that one is better than the other.
