I made this bow to complete a life long endevour i started as a kid. when i attempted my first bow with a yaupon branch and some yarn. That pitiful thing wouldn't even launch the arrow 3 feet. Anyways, i'm one to always at least try a bow wood first before i decide its not worth using. This is a Yaupon Longbow, 72" ttt, 35#@28". overbuilt cause i didnt have the sinew to spare on it. Its a shooter, however it does suffer from some handshock. But thats to be expected when you overbuild a bow.

very kool! I think we all are working on childhood passions here! mine was a wild rose stem and a piece of bailers twine... hmmmmmm might have to retry that prickly mess!

Beautiful tiller! At that weight it will be a great "all day" shooter for the range... Brian

Its always worth another shot at it. Hitting it with a little more experience should help.

Slimbob it has an ivory feel to it after you final sand it. probably one of the smoothest feeling woods ive worked with so far. I'll be making another one some day for sure. Course i had to make this one a D Bow cause the limb was to thin to make anything else.

Looks very good,finely one I can see the pistures on[don't know whats up with that] :-\  Tiller looks good,bet it's a sweet shooter. :)

You have made a nice bow with a great tiller!
IMO it's shocky becuse of the length of the bow. The bow has to travel a long limb with too much mass.
You should try a little wider and a bit shorter, I have got good results with pyramidal shaped designs on Holly.
But as said, good job on this one

Simson - I will be trying a pyramid design on one next now that you mention it. Gotta find a larger tree however. this one wasn't big enough to make a wider limbed longbow. Gonna go hike around this weekend i think and look for some larger trees. Thanks for the compliment.
