Congratulations to Pat B for winning November Backed BOM!!!
« on: January 08, 2014, 04:23:07 pm »
Pat B has made a bow that does not need an itroduction or an annuncment.  It's just so purty and sleek and Pat says she's a hard hitter.  I have a personal connection to his bow as the skin was raised in Texas and grew under our hot summer months.  Well done amigo  ;)

56" sinew backed osage static recurve...the beginnings!

http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,38869.0.html

Here's what Pat said about his beauty:

I've made a few 60" static recurves but none were sinew backed so I have been thinking about this for a good bit while waiting for the right stave to show up. Last year at the classic Clint(osage outlaw) gave me one of the staves he got from the giant osage he harvested. I was very excited when he gave it to me, not only because it was one of "the" staves but also because of this hole in it, centered from side to side. I think the stave was 72" or so.

Well after many months of sitting around(sinew added 6/16-18/2013)I finally got back to work on this little bow. After long stringing her I realized there were a few stiff spots to soften. With lots of excercie and a few scrapes here and there I got her to low brace then a normal brace height of about 6 1/2" from the back.
I got her down to about 60#@26" but thats still a bit stiff so I will have to reduce the weight some. I'll recheck the weight after shooting her in. When I was sure everything was looking good I braced her and put 4 arrows through her. Man does she shoot nice. I still have to do final shaping and finish on the tips and handle but for now here she is...
Braced...

Full Draw(@26")...

And after shooting 4 arrows I let her rest at brace height for about 1 hour. Right after unbracing she looked like this...

I still have to add tip overlays and finish shaping the tips, shape and finish the handle add a floppy rest with a handle wrap and then after 100 shots I'll add the carp skins Pearlie gave me then Tru-Oil.

And just a few of the comments from our forum members suffering from envy:

Wow, absolutely stunning. It does look fast.  rps3

That is one stud of a bow  I like your style, on this one especially   Zion

Amazing, really beautiful work.   BOWMAN53

I like it all, but I really like those ipe and yew underlays and the leather overlays. Sweet tips too. Beautiful bow!  Carson

That is one fine bow, looks perfect in every detail. The braced and drawn profile are all business and the finish, skins and tips are all beauty. The whole package here. Nicely done Pat.  Badly Bent

Pat, congratulations for a well earned win.  That bow isn't your basic "chop it out, whip it up" bow.   It's a personal investment in time, skill and desire.  It deserves a place at the top of your bow rack.  Nicely done!
