budlight bottles seem to be really fragile and break easily. snaple has a flat center and what seems like a seperate sheet of glass where flakes like to dig in and step. The best bottles ive tried so far have come from the green perrier mineral waters.

what has your guys experience with different bottle bottoms been like?

The Green Odools  seems to stay consistant. Budlight Platinum seems lighter, more plastic and eaisier to breakage. Haven't had any bad luck with brown bottles.

it seems like its all the domestic bottles that have the issues, imports seem to be better quality.

Funny, the imports I like to drink have crappy bottles for knapping.

Here is a list of my favorites:

Pickle Jar - 1 gallon
Riesling Wine Blue Bottle - .75 liter or 25 oz.
Perrier Green Bottle - .75 liter or 25 oz.
Beer Brown Bottle, Large - 22 oz.
Beer Brown Bottle, Growler - 64 oz.

I get most of my bottle bottoms from walking in creeks.  Generally nature takes care of the rest of the bottle for you and the bottom is left behind.  You would be amazed at how distributed trash can be in a watershed.  I have found two of those clorox bottles that way and they are a treat to knap.

I'm 53 and don't recall ever seeing a Chlorox bottle. Never thought about trying some of the jar bottoms. Biggest frustration I've found is getting the right size nail for the bottle! Too small and you get tiny shards, too big and you bust the bottom to smithereens!

I'm not a fan of the nail technique, half the time it works, other half only gives you half the bottom. I've always gotten whole bottoms when I break the bottles with a hammer at the neck.
