Made some stone fish hooks today...
« on: November 21, 2013, 10:25:42 am »
These are made from Keokuk, Texas Chert and Flint Ridge. I had never attempted these before and they proved to be my most tedious flintknapping project to date. On the smaller ones once I got into the interior of the hook portion I had to hold my notcher like a pencil and slowly chip at a downward angle with only the part I was chipping touching the pad. The edges of these hooks look more like stitching than anything and it was a bitch keeping the interior portion from stalling because of the angle. Hope yall enjoy I had a blast making them !

Wow!  Three?  very nice work!  8)  Those are awesome.  I think I would have stopped at the first one and quit while I was ahead.

Florida to Kwajalein to Turkey and back in Florida again.  Good to be home but man was that an adventure!

The first one took about 2 hours but then I got the hang of it and knocked out the big one in about 45 mins and the grey one in about an hour. They were from small spalls too so it took some time thinning them down with percussion too.

I like those - great work. I've tried making a couple before and had no trouble at all breaking them in half while pressure flaking. Can you make a treble hook for me?  :) Rick B
