It's been a while since I touched any stone
« on: November 21, 2013, 02:56:38 am »
It has been so long since I tried knapping.  I broke a nice spall in half but was able to salvage some of it.  I didn't create any great pieces but I thought I'd share a couple modest points.  This was done with the tip and base of a deer antler.  Base for percussion and tip for pressure flaking.  Any abo suggestions for notching?
They weren't quite as thin as I wanted them and the white one had a difficult bump in it.  I think these are both novaculite?

Florida to Kwajalein to Turkey and back in Florida again.  Good to be home but man was that an adventure!

Looks like a San Patrice on the left. Nice work for being rusty!

I found one just like that white one in NM just a lot smaller. Not bad.

Yep, looks like novaculite to me.  Cool points!

Abo notching is difficult unless you have a really thin area to notch.  Most abo guys use bone for notching.
Any critter tastes good with enough butter on it.

They look good Tim.
Thanks!  That stone you gave me is working out real good!  Still got plenty of it left though.  I'm expecting to go through a phase over the winter where I go crazy and knap a lot so I'll let you know when I need more.
