Farrier's Rasp

Just looking for a good source for a quality farriers rasp. Any opinions on brands and sources would be appreciated.

You could go to Tractor Supply or somewhere similar. I know they sell them.

All farriers rasps are not created equal. I purchased a SaveEdge (USA) 14" with a coarse and smooth side from Fastenal a few years ago. Excellent product.

Belotta/Razor (Spain)  is also rumored to be an excellent rasp.

I've been using my neighbor farriers' worn out ones for years and they do a really good job.I'll have to admit though I used a brand new one once and lordy do those things hog the wood off.

Get that SaveEdge Fred mentioned. Our Tractor Supply sells the rasps, but they are manufactured in Brazil. World of difference between the USA and Brazil made ones. Tractor supply does however sell some nice large handles to fit the rasps.

Be warned with that SaveEdge rasp, it's so friggn sharp it'll eat your hands up! So wear some gloves..........Art

If  there is a horse racing track close by,,,,,,  ask around there,,,,,,,  my  buddy got a box of them super cheap!  they only use them on a few horse's check it out JeffW

I've got a Nicholson Farrier's rasp. It works great. I think I bought it off Amazon for ~$25 shipped.

Couldn't agree more. The Nicholson is hands down a better rasp, much better. I paid $20 in Kzoo a few years ago for it. I used new ones from TSC and used ones from ferriers. Any ferries rasp is a good one, some are just much better is all.

I'll occasionally buy one at a local feed&Tack store if I don't have one handy but I usually have them laying around thanks to doing a bit of shoeing.

I'd look for local equestrian stores and see what you can dig up.

not sure where you are located, Fleet Farm is where i get mine. It is Nicholson and it is double sided with both ends rounded (no tang) which i like better.

If you find one that is old rusted and dull you can have it sharpened that's what I did and it's around 40 cents an inch I was very pleased with how sharp they made them.
