Bowyers pooing on finished bows....
« on: November 01, 2013, 11:07:57 pm »
I'm not too sure how widespread this is/was amongst North American bow makers, but apparently there was a ritual amongst some which involved pooing on a finished bow before sending it to the customer ??? Not sure how much truth there is to it, but I've been told of this odd practice by quite a reliable source and renowned bowyer.

Strange to say the least....

Forgot to add that apparently the reason behind it was to make it easier for the bowyer to "let the bow go".

I skip that step and just make bows that are poo.
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

There could be some truth to it?.. If you think about it there may be a psychological reason I.e. After putting so much love and effort into crafting such a priceless piece of art it can be very difficult to part with...... I have experienced  this feeling myself. I was offered good money for the last bow I made but was too emotionally attached to let it go.......

Maybe just Maybe if I had taken a shit on it, it could have put me off somewhat the idea of keeping it?.. Making it easier to part with?

I'll have to give it a try with the next one.... >:D

That was NOVEMBER 1st... not APRIL.
Unless you quote a verifiable source, I'm taking this as a wind up, joke, troll trip...wha'ever.
Two of the worst words in bowmaking...
"I've heard"
Unless you've done it and it adds to performance, or aesthetics, I'm not sure we want to know.

Sounds like an urban legend, especially since you didn't provide reliable evidence, ie books, articles, something? Really?
