surprising scyth

Some time ago I have made few scythian bows in this design http://www.fotosik.pl/u/robbin/zdjecie/1/album/1119559 . All hickory selfbow with sinew , glued only in handle. I was not very glad with work, stacking on 27 " . Now I make more reflex on this first bending, give more comfortable draw. In last week I make chrono test and this bow shoot 198 fps at 27" with 7 gpp arrow and only 42 lb. I was suprised, I dont expect good results with so deflexive design. Wood and bows will always suprise me :)

Deflex allows the wood to stay fresh. Fresh wood is very important to speed.

Lenght strung 105 cm but bowstrig leght about 115 cm , in first bending near handle about 3,5 cm , 2 cm on recurve ends , deer sinew, fish glue, belly tempred. Here is few pictures from my last "bowyer weekend" with scythian bows  making http://www.fotosik.pl/u/robinn/zdjecie/1/album/1507878

sinew thickness is uneven, most is concentrated in this small deflexive areas, protect wood.

thanks, Im happy that you like it. Sinew 3-4 mm on deflex bending 1-2 mm on limb and working recurve. Now I make on scythian little differend type of work. Last 10 cm on recurve is static , more reflex on this bending near handle and more work in middle part of limbs. This solution give good performance and more smooth draw. Good sinewing and good wood give very nice results. Like in this bow, I was very surprise http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,42590.0.html
