Damn! that's a simple and sweet looking piece of
black locust! I've got a BL stave soon to become
a bow, and I think I'm gonna steal your tip design!

      Superb!

That's pretty good work for a short locust bow, nice job!

That definitely looks like it will get the job done.  Nice tiller.  Love the tips on that one.

Nice looking bow.  Is it just me or does it look like the top limb is a bit stiffer than the lower? Just wondering if it is,  and if so, was that intentional?

killer bow!

I have a ton of this stuff cut and seasoned, thought it was osage lol. did you chase a ring or go off the sap wood?

Great job.

It's safer to chase a ring, but I've made four sapwood-on BL bows that have been working for over five hundred arrows each.My impression is that it's more brittle than the heartwood, so the tender handling has probably been what saved them from the burn pile.

Black locust. Black locust everywhere.

Might as well make them short, save some wood to keep warm.

Thanks guys for the kind words.  Some more pics below.

hrhodes - yes, the shelf is built up leather scraps dyed black.
Adb - pic of back profile attached
Mikekrswick and pappy - although the handle is meant to be stiff, I agree that it looks a little too stiff out of the fades.  Since she was shooting great at a draw of 28 on a 61 (surprised myself)
inch bow, I decided to not mess with her any further.
Woodmonkey - I chased a ring after removing the sap wood.   I know there are guys who will tell you the sap wood works well for a back, but I always treat BL like Osage and remove it.
Japbow- go for it!!!!!!  Copying is the nicest form of flattery.
John - thanks for the kind words.  It's been too long - when we getting together to fling and drink a few?
Cameroo- due to a knot and the grain going loopy around it just a few inches below the recurve on the top, makes it look like it is stiffer, but the gizmo tells me otherwise.  A tape measure has the top limb in positive tiller by a hair.  You can see the knot and loopy was in the pic below of the profile.

Thanks BB, got one more coming soon and then RO and Hickory.  Too many woods to sample and work and obligation always seem to get in the way.  :-)
