My bow is about exactly 75" from nock to nock. My bow string is exactly 72" from nock to nock. The bow is a straight profile english longbow. When I string the bow, with the string that is exactly 3" shorter than the bow, the brace height is like 10". I am stumped. The only thing I can think of is because the bow has about 2" reflex in it, the back stretches out when bent and strung essentially making a longer bow, equally a shorter brace height. I have no clue. The string is a fast flight endless loop string, I haven't put any twist in it yet.  :o

Either way I am off to go make my third string, this time about an inch shorter,...  ;D

I do stuff like that all the time, you are screwing up somewhere on your measurement LOL. Arithmetic don't lie!

LOL, :). I swear though, I measured probably at least 25 times in a row, no idea. I just made a 73" string and gave it a couple twists.

I think that 2" of reflex doubles to make 4" and 3" short should make up for a total of 7" if that makes any sense. And maybe add another 3" for the circumference difference. .......lol......... ???  just guessing

I measure the length of the actual wood, I think you did that also? Didn't you?

Cut your string strands 10" longer than the t/t bow length, twist an eye in one end and make a bowyers knot in the other end. If it is too long or too short just retie the bowyers knot to the correct length.  ;)

I may have been doing this wrong, I measure the bow on the belly side from nock to nock and make a string 3" shorter, not the air distance between the nocks when dealing with reflex..

You make a Dacron string 3" shorter because it'll stretch down 1". FF won't stretch so it'll only be 2" shorter..........Art

TMK...Funny you bring this up.  Earlier this summer I had a few bow making friends over for a few days.  Sat down in the living room on a rainy afternoon to make a string for a bow I had just finished....4 tries and four strings later I got one to work.  My friends laughed louder each time the latest string was too short by the same length as the one I just finished cussin'.  Still cant figure out why that particular spool of FastFlite had such shrinkage issues.
