Best Man Gift (Bow)
« on: September 28, 2013, 04:09:30 pm »
I will be tying the knot next Saturday and what's a better gift to my best man than a selfbow. This bow is made of ash with rosewood overlays. It is 48# @ 64". I went with a little bit of a pyramid limb design. It shoots so sweet with a little over 1" of set. I left 3 growth rings on the back of the handle to add character and handle comfort. I hope he likes it!

The knife that I added in the one picture is my first attempt at a forging from an old Nicholson file. It finished at about 58 on the Rockwell scale. The handle is made of hickory and rosewood. It was a fun experience and hopefully I can gut a deer with it this year!

Very nice looking stuff.  I really like the feel of that bulbous handle style, and the growth rings make it look awesome too.

Very well done. And the knife does not look like a 1st attempt it looks just as well crafted as the bow. He ought to be happy as a kid on Christmas morning. I sure would be.

First off, this bowyer is marrying my daughter, so I am a bit biased, but the bow is very smooth on release and an accurate shooter. In addition, Joe's attention to detail is outstanding as demonstrated here. Great job Joey, I look forward to making plenty of shavings together in the future.

Thanks everyone for the complements! I just gave it to him and he was thrilled! The expression on his face was priceless. And thanks Tim. I hope to make a few more knives soon.
